Most video files are seekable and it is possible to choose start and stop of the video clip with the help of the range selector located on the left, under the movie preview area.

If a short clip is to be selected from a long video, it may be necessary to use the Cut button  repeatedly to cut out the selected clip.  The Play button  can be used to preview the selected clip. A hint: select a short clip (no more than a few seconds) for the first project.
