Step by Step Walkthrough

(1) Open a Movie

To open a movie, select File->Open Movie from the menu or click on Open. See Opening a Movie for more information.

Open a Movie

(2) Select a Movie Fragment

For most projects, especially GIF animation projects, only a short movie fragment is needed. To select the clip start and stop, move the sliders "Clip Start" and "Clip End" and use the Cut tool Cut if necessary. See Selecting Movie Fragment for more info.

Select Fragment

(3) Initialize Converter for the Selected Fragment

Click on "Start Movie Converter" and the selected movie fragment will be split into frames for further editing. This may take some time. A hint: for the first project, start with just a few frames. Click on Stop' in the upper left toolbar when the desired number of frames is reached. Otherwise it will stop when all frames of the selected movie fragment are read. In either case, once this step is over, the first frame will appear under Current Frame, converted and ready for editing.

For more information, see Initializing Converter and Frames per Second.

Initialize Converter

(4) View and Edit Frames, Convert them One-by-One or Automatically

This step is the main step in the process and it varies from project to project. Some projects require few edits to individual frames and frames can be processed automatically and some projects require more editing. The Editing the First Frame section explains how to edit the first frame of the clip. The section Editing the Second Frame covers editing of the following frames and Navigating between Frames includes info on moving back and forward between frames.

(5) Save the Result GIF animation or video

Click on "Preview & Save Cartoon" and than on "Save" to save the result as GIF animation or AVI or WMV video. See Saving the Result for more info.
